Our research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying immune responses in inflammatory diseases of critical ill patients, including Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), sepsis, and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Through a translational approach, we explore the regulation of the innate immune response, particularly how danger- and pathogen-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs and PAMPs) are recognized and how their activated signaling pathways can be modulated. A key aspect of our work is understanding the variability of individual immune responses, with the ultimate goal of developing personalized treatments to prevent and manage organ failure in the context of critical illness.
