We are delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Oliver Brüstle, head of the Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology at the University Hospital Bonn, to the Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation2. Oliver Brüstle is a leading expert in stem cell research and regenerative medicine, bringing an exciting new dimension to the Cluster's interdisciplinary focus on immunity in health and disease.
Research Focus: Pluripotent stem cells for neuroregeneration and CNS disease modeling
Oliver Brüstle's research centers on stem cell-based disease modeling and neuroregeneration. His work pioneered the use of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells as experimental tools for dissecting disease mechanisms and as donor source for neural cell replacement. His laboratory provides advanced technologies for cell programming and the generation of disease-specific neural cell types and organoids. The group employs both, patient-specific iPS cells and custom genome editing to establish authentic human disease models for fundamental research and drug discovery.
In recent years, Brüstle has embarked on using human stem cell models to study the molecular mechanisms underlying immune-mediated neural damage, with the aim to decipher neuroimmunological processes that may inform future therapeutic approaches.
Collaborations within the Cluster
With his expertise, Oliver Brüstle is forging impactful collaborations within the research community of ImmunoSensation2. His focus on the interactions between the immune and nervous systems aligns seamlessly with the Cluster’s mission to unravel the systemic nature of immune responses.
Looking ahead
Speaking about his new role within ImmunoSensation2, Oliver Brüstle shared his enthusiasm:
"I am excited to join a Cluster that fosters such dynamic and interdisciplinary research. By integrating the fields of neurobiology, stem cell research, and immunology, we have a unique opportunity to address some of the most pressing challenges in medicine today. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to drive innovation and create meaningful impact in both fundamental and translational science."
The inclusion of Oliver Brüstle highlights the Cluster's commitment to expanding its expertise across disciplines and fostering collaboration to address complex scientific questions. We eagerly anticipate the contributions his research will bring to our understanding of immunity and its interplay with the nervous system.
Welcome, Oliver Brüstle, to ImmunoSensation2. Together, we look forward to advancing research and inspiring new breakthroughs.
